Anthon B Nilsen AS is a company with a track record of more than 130 years in trade and industry. Today the company's main business activities are within development and management of commercial property, provision of private education in the Group's own schools and global trading with collected paper for reuse by the pulp and paper industry.
Anthon B Nilsen AS is 50 percent owned by private shareholders and 50 percent by a private trust with the sole purpose of supporting charities.
The company was established by the founding father, Mr. Anthon Bernhard Nilsen, in 1879. He was a true entrepreneur who initially developed activities in forestry, lumber dealing and saw mill operation. In 1884 he had his own unique brand registered for the branding of trees and timber. This brand has newly been re-launched as an element of the company’s logo.
As a businessman, Mr. Nilsen displayed a formidable creativity. Based on his initial activities within forestry and saw mills, he built a comprehensive global trading business for export and import of a large variety of goods and raw material.
In 1976, the heirs of Mr. Anthon B Nilsen’s sons, Mr. Reidar and Gunnar Holst, put all the shares of the company into a charitable trust.
In 2000, the company Anthon B Nilsen AS merged with ILAS AS, a company with interests in property, industry and education controlled by Mr. Peder Chr. Løvenskiold and his brother Nicolai H. Løvenskiold.
The founder of the company, Anthon B Nilsen, was driven by a strong creative zest in the development of his business. But he took one step at a time and was extremely thorough in his analysis of new business opportunities. His perspective was always long term, aiming to establish solid businesses both domestically and abroad.
Anthon B Nilsen who was also a writer and a Member of Parliament, made it his hallmark to act with the highest degree of integrity both in business and in his services in other parts of the society.
